30 Years Into The Unknown

30 Years Into The Unknown, the scalable exhibition designed and curated by Adrian Luz, unfolds in several parts through light, darkness, and the dreamlike realities Siebert experienced across Latin America. Visitors move from a ‘light space’ of early works into a deep, ‘dark space’ as sort of a red-light district and nocturnal streets appear only when illuminated by a handheld flashlight—the same minimal light Siebert used while painting in electricity-less, night-bound environments.

The final and largest space opens into a luminous hall of new paintings, video projections, and a dedicated cinema showing Behind the Moment, where artworks seen on the walls reappear within the film. At the center, a digital fire glows as a shifting red-light installation, echoing the elemental spark running through Siebert’s world. Throughout, light guides, darkness reveals, and painting, film, and lived experience merge into a single immersive journey.

After The Moment

In After the Moment, the air feels warm, charged, almost heavy. Jan Siebert paints the unseen—the secrets, tensions, and atmospheres that linger beneath the surface of everyday life. His mastery of color, light, and shadow creates a magnetic pull that invites visitors deep into the worlds he captures.

For over three decades, Siebert has lived between Europe and Latin America, moving through urban metropolises, favelas, and the Amazon rainforest. These crossings have made him a painter of in-between spaces—places where reality and emotion merge. Working directly on site and often at night, he observes with remarkable precision, translating the essence of fleeting moments into powerful, immersive paintings. This unmistakable authenticity has earned him international recognition among collectors and art lovers.

NachtGedacht

Jan Siebert has dedicated his life to painting, capturing images and atmospheres from across Latin America for more than 25 years. His exhibition NachtGedacht at the Embassy of Mexico offers a rare glimpse into the nocturnal worlds, human encounters, and dreamlike moments that shape his artistic vision. Don’t miss this exceptional presentation of his work.

VIsion Latina

“Visión Latina” presents a vibrant selection of works painted on site in Bahia, Brazil—where Hamburg-born artist Jan Siebert has lived and worked after extended periods in Mexico and Rio de Janeiro. The exhibition explors Siebert’s longstanding connection to Latin America, capturing its nocturnal atmospheres, cultural rhythms, and human presence with his characteristic sensitivity to light and shadow.

Though far from home, Siebert brings a hint of Hamburg with him, grounding his globetrotting practice in a vision that he insists must be lived, not imagined.

Exhibited at Levantehaus in 2019, the show introduced audiences to the depth and immediacy of his painting process—rooted in real places, lived moments, and a life between continents.
